Peppermint Macarons by Buona Terra Cincinnati!

Since everyone else is starting their holiday shopping, we figured we'd go ahead and release one of our holiday favorites as well.... I give you, peppermint macarons! These little beauties have a peppermint swirl shell and are filled with white chocolate peppermint ganache, finished with a dusting of candy cane and you have yourself one delicious holiday treat.

The day encourages people to shop at small businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The single day has grown into a powerful movement, and more people are taking part than ever before. What exactly is an Affogato?

If you like coffee and gelato, this is a marriage made in heaven! The word Affogato literally means drowned in Italian. The idea is to take a scoop of gelato, typically vanilla, and drown it in Espresso. Top that with home-made biscotti and you are in for a real treat. Many people have asked us over the years about adding an Affogato to the menu, and we took our time doing it because we wanted to find the right coffee to accompany our Gelato. We are so happy to have found an Artisan Roasterie right in Cincinnati who is just as passionate about doing things the traditional Italian way as we are. We are happy to announce that our Affogato wouldn't be possible without the help of La Terza Artisan Coffee in Clifton.

Sweet Potato Pie just in time for Thanksgiving!

If you've been to our shop before, you might have noticed that we enjoy making unique gelato flavors that test the boundaries of sweet and savory crossovers. This is just one example of our pursuit to make interesting frozen desserts. We roasted sweet potatoes with butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, sugar in the raw, and pecan pieces and then topped with roasted marshmallows. 

We have a new Espresso Machine!

Christmas came early this year at Buona Terra in the form of a new Espresso Machine! We are now able to make Espresso, traditional Macchiatos, and Cappuccinos! We are going to be partnering with our friends at La Terza Artisan Roasterie who roasts their beans just a few miles over on Short Vine in Clifton. We are happy to be partnering with another local business who shares the same passion for quality and tradition that we do, and can't wait for you to try one of our new drinks or an Affogato! 

Housemade Biscotti and French Macarons for your Holiday Party!

Did you know we are also a bakery? Some of our favorite treats we've made for holiday events this year include 3 different types of Biscotti, and French Macarons. We can now make Affogatos!

An affogato is a coffee-based beverage. It usually takes the form of a scoop of vanilla gelato or ice cream topped with a shot of hot espresso. Some variations also include a shot of Amaretto or other liqueur.

To make our Affogatos, we will be using Cincinnati Roasted Espresso Beans from La Terza Artisan Roasterie.

The O.F.F. Market (Oakley Fancy Flea Market) was created to give Cincinnatian's a unique marketplace to discover new and wonderful things.  This curated marketplace has the individual at heart.  The O.F.F. team is dedicated to include the most interesting, strange, and downright cool stuff Cincinnati has to offer.  



The 2014 Summer season is now closed.  We now move inside the 20th Century Theater for our winter markets.  Mark your calendars for November 16th and December 7th!  Don't miss out on any of the Holiday Season Fun!    The O.F.F. Winter Market opens to the public at 11am and closes at 5pm.  Everything from handmade to vintage will be exhibited.  Our goal is to introduce you to a new Cincinnati.

Fall is one of our favorite seasons! We have made a variety of Fall Flavors including Brown Sugar Pecan pictured above, Apple Cider, Pumpkin Spice, and Chai Tea. Kids Holiday Fundraiser for Recycled Doggies at The Dog Studio!

Please invite your friends and bring the kids to join us down at The Dog Studio on Saturday, December 13th at 11:00 am as we sponsor a Holiday Concert Fundraiser for Recycled Doggies, with Zak Morgan. Recycled Doggies is an all volunteer organization in Cincinnati dedicated to saving and fostering unwanted shelter dogs into wonderful pets. We are excited to welcome Grammy nominated children's songwriter and performer Zak Morgan to play a show in support of this great cause. Zak's latest album is titled "The Barber of the Beasts", so we just couldn't resist inviting him to come play at our shop! If your kids have never seen or heard Zak perform, there couldn't be a better, more intimate time, and for a great cause.

Sweet treats will be generously provided by Buona Terra Gelato and Crepes, another fantastic local business in Mt. Lookout Square. Cincinnati Circus Company will be providing face painting and balloon animals! Face painting pizza party starts at 11 and balloon animals and gelato will be after Zak's performance. We are hosting the event in our space at the corner of Eastern and Linwood Avenues, just a couple blocks east of Terry's Turf Club and Bella Luna.

Grateful Grahams Collaboration

Have you heard of Grateful Grahams? These delicious Vegan Treats are based out of Covington, KY just across the river from us. Little known fact: Owners Rachel and Jim DesRochers are residents of Mt. Lookout! There has seemed to be an uprising of Vegan customers at Buona Terra lately, so we wanted to collaborate with another local small business to show our appreciation for you, and teach non-vegans that Vegan treats can be delicious too!  Keep your ears out as we will be releasing more details about this collaboration soon.

Lions and Tigers and PEARS! Rosemary-Infused Pear Sorbetto - Buona Terra Cincinnati

Our Pastry Chef Amanda got Pears galore from her Grandpa's farm in Brown County, Ohio. Pear is one of our favorite fall flavors, so we've been busy putting all these pears to use! We've come up with a few different ideas that have turned out beautifully. One of them is Rosemary-infused Pear Sorbetto which is featured in the bottom photograph. Come in to try out this unique, but delicious combination!

Homemade Cones in the house!

We are happy to announce that we are now offering homemade waffle cones! You've been asking, we've been listening and we finally perfected our recipe.  One of our most frequent customers is Emma and her dad Mike. These cones are Emma tested, Emma approved. She had one last night and begged Dad to come back for another tonight!

Mexican Chocolate Gelato

Yes, you read that right, Avocado Gelato! This gelato is a lower calorie, lower sugar option if you are health conscious. This idea of adding avocado to gelato or ice cream isn't a new creation either, many recipes in Mexico and Asia incorporate avocado into their desserts. Cones are coming, and we were featured on a blog!

You've been asking, and we've been listening... and they are coming! We have been working on our recipe for homemade waffle cones for most of the summer and we are going to be adding them to our menu soon. We'll keep you posted on the date we will be rolling these babies out. 

Something really awesome also came about when we asked one of our blogger friends to taste test our cones, so we could perfect our recipe.... she wrote about us on her blog! Check it out!

This is always a great event for us, as it's a unique tasting experience for the community and a chance for us to work with another small business in Cincinnati. Mt. Lookout Fall Festival on October 19th

Last year we had the pleasure of experiencing our first Mount Lookout Fall Festival. This is a great event that brings the community together for a free, fun afternoon. 

Here's a message from the Mount Lookout Community Council regarding this year's fall festival:

We will have the same traditional events for the kids including the giant bouncy castle, face painting, corn hole, cupcake walk, and a costume contest since it is right before Halloween. Again this year, we will have Fronkensteen playing live music during the day along with these other great activities. Adult beverages will also be for sale; hotdogs, pop and water will be free for this historically beautiful and sunny, October day. 

Norwood Farmer's Market

Saturday, October 18th we will be participating in the Norwood Farmer's Market! This market will follow a 5k in the Norwood neighborhood. The Farmer's Market will take place on the corner of Williams and Elsmere, where the traffic will be blocked off.  Come check out local produce growers, and grab some dessert. After all, if you're running the 5k, you will certainly deserve it!
